To keep your pieces beautiful for years, knowing how to care for wooden wall art is key. Follow these simple, effective rules for cleaning, storing and preserving MDF and Sunmica finishes.
Daily cleaning
Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth — microfiber works best. For Sunmica finishes use a lightly damp cloth and immediately dry with a soft towel.
Dealing with stains or fingerprints
Never use abrasive cleaners or strong solvents. For painted MDF, a gentle mix of mild dish soap and water on a soft cloth removes marks — wipe dry immediately.
Humidity and sunlight
- Avoid direct, prolonged sunlight which can fade finishes.
- Keep wooden art away from constant high humidity (bathrooms, near humidifiers). MDF expands when wet unless properly sealed. Sunmica tolerates humid environments better.
Small scratches and chips
- Superficial scratches on Sunmica can sometimes be minimized with a gentle polishing cloth or a manufacturer-recommended polish.
- For painted MDF, touch-ups with matching paint are often the easiest fix. Keep touch-up paint from the product or ask us for a repair kit.
Long-term storage
Store horizontally on a flat, dry surface. Cover with breathable cloth (not plastic) and keep in a climate-controlled space. Avoid stacking heavy objects on top.
Regular checks
Inspect hooks, screws and frames yearly to ensure hardware is secure. Replace anchors that show wear and tighten loose fittings.
When to call for repair
If a joint separates, a large chip appears, or a panel warps, contact a professional. For products purchased from us, check the warranty terms — we often help with small repairs.
